Bariatric Surgery in Antalya
Bariatric surgery is an evidence-based treatment for severe obesity and obesity-related metabolic disease. It is most effective when offered as part of a structured, lifelong multidisciplinary programme.
Who may be a candidate?
International guidelines (ASMBS/IFSO 2022) consider bariatric surgery for adults with BMI ≥ 35, regardless of comorbidities, and for selected patients with BMI 30–34.9 and metabolic disease, after appropriate non-surgical attempts. Final candidacy is individualised after full clinical assessment.
Main procedures
- Sleeve gastrectomy — restrictive, most commonly performed worldwide
- Roux-en-Y gastric bypass — restrictive + malabsorptive, strong metabolic effect
- One-anastomosis (mini) gastric bypass — single anastomosis, shorter operative time
- Intragastric balloon — non-surgical, temporary
Preoperative pathway
Initial consultation, blood work, upper GI endoscopy, imaging, anaesthesia review and nutritional assessment are completed before any surgical decision. Smoking cessation and optimisation of comorbidities are encouraged.
Long-term follow-up
Lifelong nutritional follow-up, vitamin and mineral supplementation and periodic laboratory checks (typically at 1, 3, 6 and 12 months, then yearly) are essential and are part of the treatment.
